After Archie Rawlings and David McMullan had worn the No. 7 shirt in the opening eleven First Division games of the 1925-26 season, outside-right Cyril Oxley took over when Sunderland visited Anfield on the last day of October.
He then played in 31 consecutive matches until the end of the season, scoring six times.
Oxley also represented Liverpool in three FA Cup ties that year, a run ended by Fulham in the 4th round after it had taken a replay to dispose of Southampton in round three.
