Barkas arrived on Merseyside in December 1930, after impressing for third division north outfit South Shields (Gateshead).

His brief five-match career with Liverpool began on January 3, 1931 at home to Middlesbrough. He made just three more appearances that season and one the following season; his final match being at Leicester City on September 12, 1931.
