An Ayr United legend, Smith's remarkable scoring record saw him earn a move to Liverpool in 1929.
His midas touch in front of goal continued in England and he struck a double on his debut against Manchester United; going on to play 38 consecutive league and cup games, scoring 23 times.
Smith grabbed another 14 league goals a year later but lost his place halfway through the season. Dave Wright had moved ahead of him at the start of the 1931-32 season and Jimmy was restricted to just three more appearances for the club.
His final game was in a defeat at Sheffield United on the last day of October, 1931. He left Anfield having notched 38 goals in 61 league appearances.
