John Ogston won the Scottish Junior cup at Banks O'Dee in 1957 and shortly after that joined his local side, Aberdeen.
After spending three years as Dons' reserve goalkeeper, he became their number one from 1960-1965, making a total of 230 appearances.
Nicknamed "Tubby", he was signed by Bill Shankly as a deputy to Tommy Lawrence, but in four years he only played one game for the Reds in a 3-1 league victory over Newcastle on April 7, 1967.
He went initially on loan to Doncaster in August 1968, before being sold to them permanently in July 1969 as Ray Clemence was establishing himself as Liverpool's No.1.
