Jon Otsemobor signed for Liverpool as a trainee on July 1, 2002 when he was 19-years-old.
Gerard Houllier gave the young defender his debut when Southampton visited Anfield for a League cup third round match at the start of November, 2002. But Jon had to wait another year for his League debut, which came at Newcastle. A week later he retained his place in the starting line-up for the home Premier League fixture with Southampton. He was one of the few home players to emerge with any credit from the game because Liverpool's 2-1 defeat was one of their worst performances, certainly at home, during the whole of Houllier's reign.
After four league appearances in 2003-04, Jon never played again for Liverpool's first team after being substituted in the first half during an away match at Manchester City. Whilst at Anfield he was loaned out to Hull City, Bolton Wanderers and Crewe Alexandra but he finally made a permanent move when joining Rotherham on a free transfer during the summer of 2005. After only a few months at Rotherham, he moved to Crewe (January, 2006) but after his contract at Gresty Road expired in June 2007 Otsemobor signed a three-year deal with The Canaries. Jon was a regular 'starter' for Norwich in 2007-08, where it seemed his early promise on Merseyside was finally rewarded with regular first-team football.
