Bennett's solitary game for Liverpool came in the ninth match of the 1919-20 season, away to Chelsea.

He took over the number eight shirt from Frederick Pagnam, who had played in all the eight previous matches. But Bennett never played for Liverpool again and was forced into soccer retirement at a young age after suffering ill health.

He died at the age of 31. Bennett scored 77 wartime goals in 70 matches.
