Tom Miller was an inside-forward who had played for several Scottish clubs before signing for Liverpool in February 1912, making his debut for the Reds against Sheffield Wednesday at Anfield a few days after his arrival on Merseyside.
He established himself in the side over the next two seasons and helped the club reach their first FA Cup final in 1914, only to suffer defeat to Burnley at the old Crystal Palace ground.
Miller along with three Liverpool players; Fairfoul, Pursell, Sheldon and three United players was found guilty of fixing a game between Liverpool and Manchester United on Good Friday 1915. The Bookies had laid 7-1 against United winning 2-0 which is how it ended. For his service to his country in the war Miller's ban from the game along with his accessories' was lifted and he was still a Liverpool player after League football resumed.
Miller scored 13 goals in 25 starts in the 1919-20 season as Liverpool finished fourth and reached FA Cup fourth round. Miller started the following season well by scoring three goals in his first two games, but funnily enough, considering the Good Friday scndal, moved to Manchester United in September 1920. Miller scored eight goals in 27 appearances in his only season at United before moving to his native Scotland to play for Hearts. His brother John was also a Liverpool player in the 1919-20 season, but the two Millers only played in the same team together on three occasions.
