Rafa Benitez admits he was left frustrated by the manner of Liverpool's 2-1 defeat to Fiorentina - but believes Alberto Aquilani's first Reds start and the return of Fernando Torres were two major plus points.
Aquilani played for 76 minutes at Anfield, and was afforded a standing ovation by supporters as he was substituted for Dani Pacheco, while Torres made his first appearance since November 4 after being introduced into the action in the second half.
However, the Reds were left stunned as goals from Martin Jorgensen and Alberto Gilardino cancelled out Yossi Benayoun's opener and gave Fiorentina victory.
"To see Aquilani and Torres were positives from this match," Benitez told his post-match press conference.
"I think it was clear today was a difficult game, but we conceded another goal in the last minute and we are really disappointed with the three late goals we have conceded in the competition.
"When you lose in this way, having worked so hard and had chances, the only positive is that maybe we will be more focused in future if necessary.
"But I don't think we lack concentration. Tonight was a mistake and it's something that can happen."
On the Italian's performance, the boss added: "I think he showed his quality. He has to improve his match fitness, but in terms of his touch, vision and passing it was good."
Liverpool will now enter into the Europa League when the UEFA calendar resumes in the New Year.
Benitez confirmed the Reds will not be seeded in the draw for the competition, which takes place later this month.
Liverpool's immediate concern, however, is Sunday's Barclays Premier League clash with Arsenal at Anfield - a match the manager believes presents his side with a chance to put their Fiorentina disappointment behind them.
"We know Arsenal is a very important game because we can be closer to the top of the table and one of our rivals," he said. "It could be the beginning of new options and a new season.
"We have to be ready for the next game and that's it. We have to be strong and prepared to win home and away."
Asked by reporters whether Aquilani could retain his place in the starting XI for the encounter with the Gunners, Benitez replied: "We will see if everyone is available and then we will decide. We have to see how they train."
