As the Reds prepare to take on Lyon on Wednesday evening, Liverpoolfc.tv take a look back on our last five fixtures in France.
Marseille 1-2 Liverpool
Champions League group stage - September 2008
Three days after beating Manchester United at Anfield, Steven Gerrard returned to the Liverpool starting line-up to inspire the Reds to another victory in the Stade Vlodrome. Just as they had against United, Rafa Benitez's men had to come from behind to claim the three points as Lorik Cana evaded the offside trap to put the home team in front on 23 minutes. But Liverpool's response was instant and Gerrard scored a goal that only world-class footballers of his calibre are capable of. Five minutes later, the skipper was on target again, blasting home a penalty at the second attempt to secure the three points for the Reds.
Marseille 0-4 Liverpool
Champions League group stage - December 2007
Benfica '84, Juventus '05, Barcelona '07. Now we could add Marseille 2007 to the list of Liverpool's great European away days after Rafa's Reds defied the odds to book their place in the Champions League last 16. The 4-0 victory was achieved with goals from Steven Gerrard, Dirk Kuyt, Ryan Babel and Fernando Torres, the latter winning .tv's Goal of the Season. A shock Marseille win at Anfield a few months previous was now a distant memory.
Toulouse 0-1 Liverpool
Champions League qualifier - August 2007
Andriy Voronin put Liverpool just 90 minutes away from qualification for the Champions League group stage with a thunderbolt of a first-half goal on a scorching afternoon in Toulouse. The Ukrainian striker couldn't have wished to mark his first start for the Reds in a better fashion, blasting a shot into the roof of the net from 20 yards. Liverpool would go on to win the return leg 4-0 at Anfield.
Bordeaux 0-1 Liverpool
Champions League group stage - October 2006
Liverpool maintained their unbeaten start to the 2006-07 Champions League campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over Bordeaux - the Reds' 150th win in Europe. Peter Crouch's 56th minute header was enough to secure the win en route to the final in Athens.
Monaco 1-0 Liverpool
Champions League group stage - November 2004
Liverpool's Champions League hopes suffered a blow as they were controversially beaten 1-0 by Monaco in their penultimate group stage game at Stade Louis II. Javier Saviola scored the only goal of the game in the 54th minute, but the ball appeared to strike the Argentinean forward's hand before shooting. To cap a bad night, Spanish duo Luis Garcia and Josemi were both stretchered off for the visitors. The result left the Reds needing to beat Oylimpiacos by two clear goals in the final fixture at Anfield to qualify for the knockout phase...
