Last season Liverpool defeated Wigan 3-2 at Anfield. Amr Zaki scored twice for the visitors in the first half to give the Latics a 2-1 lead. After Antonio Valencia had been sent off 15 minutes from time Albert Riera equalised with Dirk Kuyt scoring the winner and his second five minutes from time.

In the return at Wigan, Yossi Benayoun put the Reds ahead close to half-time before Mido converted an 82^nd minute penalty for the equaliser.

The meeting here 14 months ago was the Reds 2,500^th home game at Anfield in all competitions.

Dirk Kuyt has scored more goals for Liverpool against Wigan than any other player - 5.

Only one player has ever scored a hat-trick for the Reds against Wigan. Steve Staunton scored all three as a second half substitute in a League Cup tie on this ground (with Liverpool the away team!) in 1989.

Yossi Benayoun scored his first league goal for Liverpool at the then JJB Stadium back in September 2007.

Three seasons ago Liverpool scored four goals in the first half of the game at Wigan without reply. The game finished 4-0.

Liverpool have scored in all eight league meetings with Wigan.

From the 16 players involved in the squad from the first ever league meeting between the clubs in December 2005 only three players - Pepe Reina, Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard - remain at Anfield.

Fernando Torres could play his 100^th game for Liverpool in all competitions. He has scored 60 goals so far. Only five players have ever scored more than 60 in their first century of games for the Reds.

He requires two goals in his next 11 games to reach 50 in the league quicker than any other player in Liverpool's history.

They have only failed to score in one of the last 10 games. That came when they were beaten 4-0 at Portsmouth in October.

Wigan's biggest ever finish to a Premier League season saw them finish 10^th in their debut season, 2005-06 when they secured 51 points.

Last season they finisd 11^th, winning only one of the last eight games. On March 22^nd they were in 7^th place before the bad run began.

In league meetings with Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham, Wigan have conceded 19 goals.

When scoring five goals against the Latics last month Tottenham's Jermain Defoe became the second player to score a league hat-trick against Wigan this season. Aruna Dindane of Portsmouth scored three at Fratton Park in October.

Wigan's defeat at Tottenham last month was only the second occasion in Premier League history a team had conceded nine goals in a Premiership game. Ipswich Town lost 9-0 at Manchester United in 1995.
