Gary Ablett has challenged his Reserve team players to use their second-half performance from last night's victory over Wigan Athletic as a springboard for a charge up the league table.
Danny Pacheco scored the winner on 62 minutes to help the Reds on their way to a second Barclays Premier Reserve League North win of the season.
But the Reserve team boss admitted his team have a lot to improve on after watching his side put in a lack-lustre first-half display before upping their game in the second half to claim the 1-0 win.
"It's good to get the three points, but I think there's still a lot of room for improvement in our performance," said Ablett.
"We were very low on confidence before the game and it was a poor first half - we made far too many elementary mistakes.
"But we managed to stretch them in the second half and added that bit more quality to take advantage of the space.
"Hopefully now we can take that performance from the second half and use it to start climbing up the table."
Ablett also praised 18-year-old winger Vincent Weijl, who put in a man of the match performance with a raft of pinpoint crosses from the left flank.
"I spoke about how we needed to get the ball out wide and then into the box before the match," said Ablett.
"But the problem before this game was that we didn't have enough players in the box to get on the end of them," said Ablett.
"It was good that we managed to score from one of those crosses, and we had great quality there, especially from the left-hand side with Vincent Weijl.
"We had a lot of chances from him so he should be really pleased with his contribution.
"I think Vincent will be the first to admit he still has a lot to learn in terms of the defensive side of his game, and we've got plenty of time to teach him that.
"But he certainly did what we asked him to do against Wigan."
