Jamie Carragher admits that banishing Liverpool's Emirates hoodoo made their first win of the season that much sweeter.
The Reds produced an impressive showing to secure a 2-0 success over Arsene Wenger's side and claim three points on the Gunners' home turf for the first time since 2000.
An own goal from Aaron Ramsey and a late strike from substitute Luis Suarez did the damage and the club's vice captain revealed that Kenny Dalglish's men felt they had a point to prove following the opening day draw with Sunderland.
Carragher said: "I suppose it does (make it more sweet). I was aware of that fact. I think it was 10 or 11 years since we won here and I think that incorporated Highbury into that too. It's because they have been such a great side for such a long time. It's a difficult place to come but I think we deserved it today.
"To be fair to them they have a lot of injuries and then they had a few more during the game, so it makes it very tough for them. We wanted to take advantage of that.

"I thought Vermaelen was outstanding for them and if it had been 0-0 he would have got the man of the match award. Without him I think we would have scored a goal or two in the first half. But credit to ourselves we have to look after Liverpool.
"Last week was a bit of come down. Everyone had built themselves up but unfortunately it never happened. We were on a little bit of a downer after the game but we have to take heart from the fact we played so well here and I think we had a little bit to prove. I think we did that."

Carragher's thoughts were echoed by Jose Enrique who enjoyed an outstanding run out in only his second appearance for the club.
Enrique added: "We had a lot chances in the first half but did not score. After the first one went in we took control of the game and played very well.
"All of the new players started today and we did well. We won against one of the best teams in England. I think we have a lot of good players. We have to play together more to see where we are but I think we did okay today.
"I played a bit more attack-minded because I know my teammates a bit better. I think I played okay but I still have to improve."
