Jamie Carragher today hailed Steven Gerrard as a 'symbol' for Liverpool Football Club as the captain prepares to make his 500th Reds appearance.
The 29-year-old will become only the 13th player in the history of the club to reach the milestone should he figure against Blackburn Rovers today - and Carragher is confident there is still much more to come from his teammate.
"To be honest there's not much more I can say about Stevie that hasn't already been said," he said.
"Not many players get to 500 games for one club. I've been very lucky to do it in my career. It's a magnificent milestone.
"I think there's still a lot more in Stevie's locker, probably a couple more hundred games for the club.
"When he finishes he'll go down alongside Kenny Dalglish as one of the greatest players to play for the club. Like Kenny was in his day, Stevie is a symbol for the club.
"It will be a sad day when he hangs up his boots, especially when you consider just how long he's been here and what he's helped us achieve.
"To get to 500 games is a fantastic achievement but, as I say, there's plenty more to come from him."
Carragher himself is just four appearances away from reaching the 600 mark for the Reds, which would put him just 20 behind legendary centre-back Alan Hansen.
"I knew how many games I was on but not what other people had achieved," he added.
"Hopefully I can get close to that record towards the end of the season.
"To even be spoken of in the same breath as Alan Hansen is great.
"Hansen is a legend at this club. He was a great player.
"I feel privileged to be anywhere near him in terms of the number of games played for the club."
