Sotirios Kyrgiakos helped Greece secure a place at next year’s World Cup finals thanks to a 1-0 victory over Ukraine in Donetsk.
The Liverpool centre-back played the entire 90 minutes of the second leg of the qualifying play-off tie.
After a goalless first leg, Dimitris Salpigidis' decisive 31st minute strike ensured it will be the Greeks travelling to South Africa in 2010 - and not a Ukraine side who were without Andriy Voronin.
It's the first time Greece have qualified for the finals since 1994.
Elsewhere on a busy night of international football, Dirk Kuyt figured for 62 minutes of Holland's goalless draw with the United States in Eindhoven, while Ryan Babel was introduced into the action at half-time.
Pepe Reina played the second-half of Spain's thumping 5-1 victory over Austria in Vienna.
Meanwhile, Martin Skrtel was left disappointed as Slovakia lost 2-1 at home to Chile on Tuesday evening, with the Reds defender completing the entire game.
