Kenny Dalglish tonight reflected on Liverpool's impressive 4-1 victory over Chelsea at Anfield and admitted the Reds were happy to send the fans home with smiles on their faces.
Strikes from Jordan Henderson, Daniel Agger and Jonjo Shelvey added to Michael Essien's early own goal to cap a convincing performance from the Reds.
And Dalglish thanked the supporters for playing their part in staying behind to show appreciation for the players' efforts as the team and their families paraded around the Anfield turf to mark the final home game of the 2011-12 campaign.
"It was an excellent performance," said the boss. "It's been seen a few times before here, but the result hasn't always been as positive as that. So the great thing for us is that the performance was matched by a result that they thoroughly deserved.
"Also, the fact that the supporters can get away from the last game of the season with a little bit of a smile on their faces is great. And I think that the way they stayed behind and showed their appreciation speaks volumes for them.
"I don't think there's any other place in the Premier League or elsewhere whose supporters would be there to show their appreciation like that.
"For us, we're just pleased, and the players are pleased, that we gave them the performance that they deserved. And that we put a smile on their faces."
Dalglish insisted that he had no regrets upon seeing his side outplay a Chelsea team who, just three days previously, had edged them at Wembley in the FA Cup final.
He chose instead to focus on the positives of a strong team performance and reserved special praise for defensive stalwart Jamie Carragher on a night when the No.23 kept the returning Fernando Torres entirely at bay.
"We've not got a feeling of 'what if', it's a feeling of 'what a result' and 'what a performance," insisted Dalglish. "The last half an hour at Wembley and the performance tonight were a fantastic two hours of football. Everybody played their part; the two young boys in the middle of the pitch, Jordan and Jonjo, were magnificent.
"Big Andy was unplayable. Luis was fantastic for the goal but everybody was brilliant. And the old boy (Carragher) at the back didn’t do too badly either."
