Liverpool Ladies are still hovering just above the relegation zone in The FA Tesco Women's Premier League after losing 3-2 at home to Birmingham City on Sunday.
The Reds went 1-0 up through Cheryl Foster on 10 minutes, but the visitors equalised from a Danni Bird strike on the half-hour mark before England Under-20 striker Becky Hall put Birmingham in the lead just before the break.
Liverpool made a lively start to the second half, however, and were soon back on level terms when Shelly James struck from close range on 47 minutes.
But the scores remained level for just eight minutes, as Heather Scheuber fired the Blues into the lead from a well-hit shot.
That goal proved to be the winner for Birmingham, but things could have been so different for the Reds if Foster could have converted a penalty on 70 minutes.
The striker's shot rattled off the post to ensure Birmingham took all three points.
Liverpool now sit just four points above the relegation zone, having played two more matches than the bottom two clubs after all other games in the top flight were called off due to poor weather.
