David Ngog hopes his clinical strike in the Carling Cup win at Leeds will give boss Rafa Benitez a welcome selection headache.
The French striker capped a dangerous display with his second of the season at Elland Road and the 20-year-old is now keen to press for further first-team action.
"It was a very important goal for me for my confidence and because we won the game," said Ngog. "I think I played okay. The intensity of the game made it difficult and I was very happy to score.
"Of course I know that I'm not going to play every game so when the coach gives me a chance, I want to do my best for the team and try to score.
"I know I have to be patient and all I can do is when I get a chance, try and take it and show the manager what I can do.
"I hope I have done that in this match and shown the manager my qualities and that I can be another possibility in attack."
Ngog has enjoyed a promising start to life on Merseyside having joined the Reds from Paris St Germain in the summer of 2008.
The winner against Leeds is arguably the highlight so far, although the forward has a particular fondness for his late goal at home to Stoke City.
"My father was at Anfield that day so to score in front of the Kop while he was watching was special," he explained. "Of course he was very happy for me. He gets over to see me when-ever he can, but this was the first time he'd been present to see me score for Liverpool.
"When you are a striker, scoring is always the best thing. That is our job and what we work for."
