A Michael Owen header after 28 minutes was required to save Liverpool's blushes after Gerard Houllier's team had fallen behind to Spartak's first goal in Europe this season.

Anyone who witnessed Spartak Moscow's half-hearted excuse for a performance at Anfield on October 2nd wouldn't have believed their eyes when the Russians actually took the lead early in the first half.

Having caused Liverpool problems from the outset, Spartak probably deserved their 22nd minute lead - a goal scored by 18-year-old midfielder Danishevski after soom poor defending by Sami Hyypia's defence.

Spartak's joy was short-lived though when Liverpool levelled the scores six minutes later. Jamie Carragher made a great run down the right wing and his cross was met by the head of Michael Owen - from six yards out, he doesn't miss!
