Promotion hero's Anfield return

The winger who scored two goals that sealed Liverpool's promotion to the first division at the end of the 1961-62 season will be guest of honour at Anfield on Sunday when the Reds take on Sami Hyypia's Bayer Leverkusen.

Kevin Lewis, who was signed by Bill Shankly in 1960 and scored an astonishing 22 goals in his first season on the wing, will be presented to fans at half-time during the Reds' final pre-season friendly.

Currently living in South Africa, Lewis was the club's top scorer during Shankly's first full season at Anfield and the following year, the man from Ellesmere Port put two past Southampton to seal a win that would ensure the Reds returned to English football's flight.

In all, Lewis netted 44 goals in 82 appearances for Liverpool before Shankly reluctantly sanctioned his departure to Huddersfield Town in 1963.
