Pepe Reina believes the Champions League last 16 remains well within Liverpool’s grasp - and he claims history proves it.
The Reds head to Lyon on Wednesday having collected just three points from their opening three Group E games.
However, Reina points to 2007-08, when Liverpool had just one point at this stage but still progressed, as evidence he and his teammates can yet make the knockout stages.
"If we win the games, we'll be there. It depends on us," the No.25 told Liverpoolfc.tv.
"We were in an even worse position in 2007 if I remember correctly. We had just one point at this stage but finished with 10. It is going to be tough but we're able to do it.
"We have shown character already this season. We did it versus United when it was a must-win game against a big team. I have no reason to believe we can't win the game.
"They have some quality players, especially in midfield. They also have some skilful players up front and they're good from set-pieces.
"We're in a tough moment but Liverpool fans are Liverpool fans. We promise to play with passion and desire, and they'll be behind us."
