David Fairclough believes one goal is all it will take for Fernando Torres to be firing on all cylinders again, and the Kop legend has backed Liverpool’s No.9 to get back in the scoring charts against Blackburn Rovers today.
El Nino has just one strike to his name so far this season when he netted the winner against West Bromwich Albion and Fairclough has told critics to write off the Spanish star at their peril.
"It will happen for Fernando because we know the quality he has and what he gives us," Fairclough told Liverpoolfc.tv.
"He has been a little out of sorts but there's nothing like the odd goal or two that will see a smile return to his face, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he scores against Blackburn.
"He is too good a player to write off and to be fair he has been feeding on scraps so far. With a striker you need service and it would be nice to see him get a tap-in on Sunday from a good cross from the flanks."
Fairclough is confident Roy Hodgson's side can get back to winning ways against Blackburn this weekend but he wants to see the Reds make a positive start.
"It's a massive game for us and every game will be tough as we want to get back up in the top half of the table as quickly as possible.
"Two victories would see us climb the table and then we can start looking towards the top teams but before we can do that we need to start winning again.
"For me we have started slowly in games this season so I would like to see us come out like we mean business, set the tempo of the game and control it.
"We know what Blackburn are about under Sam Allardyce. He will have them well organised and tough to break down but we are at home and we can win this game.
"Blackburn are without Chris Samba who was sent-off against Sunderland on Monday night and he will be a big loss for them because he is a big threat from set pieces.
"Our fans can play a big part too in creating a good atmosphere and if we can get the three points then we can look forward to the rest of the season in a more positive frame of mind."
