WHILE the first team were losing 2-0 in Florence, Daniel Agger made a successful comeback to help Liverpool Reserves beat Manchester City by the same scoreline at Eastlands.
The Danish centre-back played for 68 minutes and put in an impressive performance as John McMahon's side secured all three points in the FA Barclays Premier Reserve League Northern Section with goals from David Ngog and Steve Irwin.
Ngog, who scored the winner for Rafael Benitez's side in the Carling Cup against Leeds last midweek, was in scoring form again with a glancing header in the seventh minute.
Midfielder Irwin celebrated his 20th birthday with a fine second.
The victory and Agger's return provided plenty of positives, but there were negatives too.
Victor Palsson was sent off for two bookable offences, while Swiss full-back Philipp Degen played just 45 minutes before having to be replaced after feeling ill.
Coach McMahon said: "It was a good win for us and Daniel did really well. It was great to see him back."
