The Europa League draw hasn’t been kind to us with a tough tie against Benfica, writes John Aldridge in the Echo.
If you had asked me what three clubs I wanted to avoid I'd have said Benfica, Valencia and Atletico Madrid - so we're certainly in the tougher half of the draw.
I watched Benfica when they beat Everton and they impressed me immensely. Everyone remembers how they knocked us out of the Champions League back in 2006.
We didn't give ourselves a chance with the way we played away in the first leg. We didn't attack them, conceded and they rubbed salt into our wounds at Anfield. We owe them one.
