Arsenal in for Liverpool target

Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou is a cut-price January target for Arsenal.

Ivory Coast star Kalou is out of contract at the end of the season and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is a long time admirer.

Arsenal could wait until the summer and get him for free but also face competition from Liverpool and may be ready to do a deal on the cheap.

Chelsea assistant boss Roberto Di Matteo yesterday dodged questions on Arsenal's interest with Kalou now away on African Nations Cup duty.

Di Matteo said: "I know that he is at the African Nations Cup and in a pre-tournament camp in Abu Dhabi with his national team. That's what I know."
