Anfield legend Peter Beardsley has urged Jordan Henderson to learn from Kenny Dalglish.
Beardsley, who was signed by Dalglish from Newcastle in 1987 and made 175 appearances for the club, believes Liverpool have signed an exciting talent in the Wearsider, and says he can take plenty on board from his new manager.
"Kenny's a good, shrewd manager," Beardsley said.
"And if Liverpool have got Jordan Henderson, they've obviously got an outstanding young player.
"And I would say to him: 'Listen to Kenny Dalglish'. I had four years there and he was sensational in every respect.
"His application to the job and his attitude to being manager of that football club is special.
"If he's not the greatest player Liverpool have ever had, he's certainly in the top three and because of that people should listen to him."
Beardsley believes Dalglish has done a fantastic job since his return to the club and says his development of players is second to none.
"Kenny has got unbelievable enthusiasm, an unbelievable ability to spot players, nurture them and improve them, he's different class," said Beardsley.
"I've not had the opportunity to say well done to him for what he's done so far but he's been fantastic.
"He was the perfect appointment for Liverpool."
Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn says Henderson will leave the Stadium of Light with the club's best wishes.
Quinn said: "Jordan is a credit to himself, his family and Sunderland's Academy and everyone here wishes him the very best for the future.
"I am pleased that we got the deal to a level that we felt was right for our club."
