Fabio Capello has called on England fans to support Jamie Carragher following his shock return to the international fold.
Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has come out of international retirement to be part of Capello's 30-man provisional squad for next month's World Cup finals.
Carragher quit international football in 2007 after growing frustrated with his lack of first-team opportunities.
It has been feared Carragher's inclusion in the squad despite not featuring in the qualifying campaign could cause resentment in the team.
But Capello insists Carragher's return will not affect England's spirit ahead of the trip to South Africa.
"The spirit will not be damaged," said Capello.
"We have time for players who have not been with us to understand what to do in every moment. What I will ask them in meetings is to understand this.
"The fans also have to remember they must support England, not only one player. I hope they won't boo him.
"During the World Cup I want the fans to help us.
"Carragher had to think about it because when we started he said 'no'. We tried to convince him four or five times because he is a leader on the pitch."
