Top-four hopefuls Liverpool and Manchester City shared the points after a 2-2 Anfield thriller on Saturday lunchtime.
Rafa Benitez's men needed a late equaliser from substitute Yossi Benayoun to take something from a game in which they scored first.
The afternoon started badly for the stuttering Reds, with centre-back Daniel Agger stretchered off with a head injury just 11 minutes in, and Ryan Babel leaving seven minutes later with an ankle problem.
The opening 45 minutes were tight with chances at a premium at both ends, but the game burst into life after the break.
Liverpool struck first when Martin Skrtel scored his first goal for the club - converting a Steven Gerrard free-kick from close range after shaking off the attentions of Emmanuel Adebayor.
It was Adebayor though who atoned for that error on 68 minutes - making no mistake with a free header from a Craig Bellamy corner.
City took the lead on 76 minutes with a fine goal. Stephen Ireland slotted home from six yards out after excellent work from Carlos Tevez and Shaun Wright-Phillips.
But that advantage lasted just 74 seconds as Benayoun scored from close range after City failed to clear a cross-shot from David Ngog.
