Liverpool are ready to move for Adam Johnson, who is set to have showdown talks with Manchester City over his future.
The winger has struggled to win a regular place in the City side since signing from Middlesbrough and with further new arrivals expected at the Etihad Stadium this summer, he could slip even further down the pecking order.
The 24-year-old is set to hold talks with City boss Roberto Mancini when they return for pre-season training and if he is not given assurances over his future, a move could be on the cards.
Liverpool are waiting in the wings as Brendan Rodgers looks to add more attacking talent to his ranks, but it would take a fee in the region of £15million to secure a deal.
Sunderland have also been linked but Martin O'Neill would struggle to match that fee along with the player's wages, which are thought to total £70,000 a week.
Johnson would jump at the chance of a move to Liverpool and everything should become a lot clearer once he has held talks with Mancini.
