Liverpool are ready to push ahead with plans to sign Newcastle's Yohan Cabaye in January but they face a fight with Arsenal.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been planning a move for the French midfielder but Newcastle want to keep the 27-year-old and there are no shortage of other takers of which Liverpool are just one.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is monitoring the situation as he looks to strengthen his squad but whether he will go to the asking price of £18m is open to question.
Roma, with Cabaye's former coach at Lille Rudi Garcia at the helm, are also interested while Paris Saint Germain boss Laurent Blanc has been keen in the past and would certainly not find the asking price prohibitive.
