Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is reportedly considering making an unlikely move to bring veteran striker Samuel Eto'o to the club.
The former Chelsea star is a free agent after leaving the Stamford Bridge outfit in the summer and he could prove to be a short-term fix for Rodgers who is looking to add a proven striker to his squad having lost Luis Suarez to Barcelona.
A proposed £8million move for Loic Remy of Queens Park Rangers collapsed so that leaves the Reds boss with a frontline of Daniel Sturridge, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini, with the Italian thought to be close to moving to Sunderland on a full-time basis.
Eto'o's wage demands would put most clubs off but with no transfer fee involved Rodgers may see a move for the Cameroon veteran as one he needs to make, with Liverpool back in the Champions League this season.
