Pepe Reina and Glen Johnson will be given as long as possible to prove their fitness ahead of Liverpool's home clash against Newcastle.
Spain international goalkeeper Reina suffered a hamstring problem on international duty last month and aggravated the injury following his return to training last week which has resulted in Brad Jones enjoying a spell between the sticks.
Johnson has not played since he was withdrawn at half-time of Liverpool's Europa League tie against Anzhi Makhachkala just over a week ago complaining of a tight hamstring.
And with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers having an extra day to prepare his squad for Newcastle's visit on Sunday there is a possibility that both players could feature if the medical staff deem it will not be a risk.
Liverpool, who will be looking to bounce back from the midweek Capital One Cup defeat against Swansea when the Tynesiders visit Anfield, have also been boosted by the news Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva is back in training.
The 25-year-old, who has been ruled out since August with a thigh injury, could be back in first-team action by the end of this month.
