Liverpool are reported to be lining up a move for Chelsea striker Fernando Torres, who is struggling while on loan at AC Milan.

Torres has seen his career go on a downward spiral ever since leaving Anfield to join Chelsea in a £50million deal and reports claim he could now return to Merseyside.

The Spaniard only joined Milan on a two-year deal in the summer, but has again struggled to find the back of the net and the Italians would like to cut the agreement short.

Chelsea would agree to that but only if another deal could be agreed elsewhere as Torres does not figure in the plans of Jose Mourinho as the Blues chase the Premier League title.

Liverpool are in need of firepower and the Reds believe he could get back to his best at Anfield.

They would face competition for his services, though, as another of his former clubs, Atletico Madrid, are also understood to be interested in taking him back.
