Cole signs Liverpool deal

Liverpool have confirmed that Joe Cole has passed a medical and has signed a four-year contract to complete his move to Anfield.

The England international agreed a deal with the Premier League club on Monday after leaving Chelsea as a free agent at the beginning of July.

Cole then flew to Switzerland to join his new team-mates at a training camp in Bad Ragaz and he has since successfully passed a medical to allow him to sign a deal with Liverpool.

The Anfield outfit said in a short statement on their official website: "Liverpool football club are delighted to announce that Joe Cole has put pen to paper on a four-year deal."

Speculation had suggested that Cole would inherit Liverpool's famous No.7 shirt, which was given prestige by the likes of Kevin Keegan and Kenny Dalglish.

But the former West Ham man has instead been allocated the No.10 jersey for the new season.

Tottenham and Arsenal were also linked with Cole before he agreed to join Liverpool in a deal which will reportedly be worth £90,000 a week.

As a result, it has been alleged that the 28-year-old's arrival is motivated by money due to Liverpool's failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, but manager Roy Hodgson has dismissed that theory.
