Schalke say they are battling Liverpool to sign Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou.

Boss Huub Stevens has identified Champions League winner Kalou to join his Bundesliga side with the Ivory Coast international looking for a new club following his release from Stamford Bridge.

Stevens believes Schalke have every chance of tempting 26-year-old Kalou too, despite interest from Liverpool.

He said: "Kalou is a Bosman player this summer.

"It's obvious; there are many other clubs keen on him. Liverpool for example.

"But I know for sure he wants to move away from England. This could be our chance."
