Brendan Rodgers is being heavily linked with a move for Basel winger Mohamed Salah.
Rodgers confirmed after Saturday's game to meeting with owner John W Henry and chairman Tom Werner, apparently receiving assurances there is money available this month to strengthen.
Salah has reportedly long been on Rodgers' radar, and whilst a bid of £8million is being suggested, Basel may demand 50% more than that.
Salah is one of Africa's rising talents.
Blessed with an array of skills and great pace, the 21-year-old FC Basel winger has been nicknamed "The Egyptian Messi".
A left-footer, Salah is equally at home playing out wide or in a central role behind a striker.
In 2012 the youngster's exciting potential was recognised when he was crowned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Most Promising Talent of the Year.
Last term he picked up the Swiss Super League Player of the Year award after leading Basel to the title.
Salah began his career with Arab Contractors Sporting Club in his homeland and became a regular in their senior team during the 2010/11 season.
Following the Port Said Stadium disaster in February 2012, when rioting fans caused the death of 79 fans, the remainder of the Egyptian Premier League season was cancelled.
Salah's form meant he was already on Basel's radar and during the long break the Swiss outfit invited the Egypt under-23 team over for a friendly.
After scoring twice in the game, Salah was asked to stay for a trial and in June 2012 he signed a four-year contract.
He was seen as the perfect replacement for Xherdan Shaqiri, who had made the move to Bayern Munich.
Salah went on to play a key role in Basel's march to the semi-finals of the Europa League - helping them knock out Tottenham before they were beaten by Chelsea. He netted in both ties.
The winger scored 10 goals in his debut campaign for Basel as they clinched the title and reached the final of the Swiss Cup.
This season he has showcased his talents in the Champions League. Salah scored both home and away in their shock wins over Chelsea in the group stage.
His international career began with a first cap against Sierra Leone in September 2011 and he played for his country at the 2012 Olympics in London.
Salah was the joint top goal scorer in African qualification for the 2014 World Cup with half a dozen strikes.
However, his hopes of gracing the finals in Brazil were dashed after Egypt lost their play-off 7-3 on aggregate to Ghana.
Brendan Rodgers is keen to add another attacking wideman to his squad before the January window closes.
The Liverpool boss believes Salah fits the bill. The Reds are unwilling to match Basel's £12m valuation but hope a compromise can be reached.
