Liverpool hope to have finally found the solution to the problematic left-back role after Lyon coach Remi Garde revealed that Aly Cissokho could leave in the summer.
Reds manager Kenny Dalglish has been linked with a whole host of left-backs in the last few weeks with Newcastle's Jose Enrique and Celtic defender Emilio Izaguirre both linked with a possible move to Anfield.
However, both players appear set to stay with their respective sides and after with first choice target Gael Clichy joining Manchester City, Dalglish has had to extend his search.
Now it appears that Cissokho could be the player that Liverpool turn their attentions to after Garde admitted to French newspaper L'Equipe that Lyon were ready to listen to offers.
"Aly is an important player for us, but if an offer matches our expectation, he is likely to go," revealed Garde.
The French outfit are rumoured to be in financial trouble and could have to sell a number of players as they attempt to balance the books. Cissokho arrived at Lyon in 2009 for £13million from Porto but it is believed that a bid of £8m may be enough for the Ligue 1 club to part with their star defender.
Cissokho, an attacking left-back who loves to get forward, earned his first cap for the French national team under Laurent Blanc and is regarded as an under study for the likes of Patrice Evra and Gael Clichy.
Liverpool struggled last season after Paul Koncheskey was deemed not good enough and loaned to Nottingham Forest, forcing Glen Johnson to play out of position.
Dalglish is desperate to rectify this situation for next season and Cissokho certainly fits the bill as a young player with a bright future that director of football Damien Comolli knows well from his time in France.
