Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has identified three midfielders he hopes to bring to the club in the summer as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for the title.
The Scottish manager is expected to be handed a two-year contract in the summer and has already begun his search for new players with Blackpool playmaker Charlie Adam, Aston Villa's Ashley Young and Wolves winger Matt Jarvis all on the radar.
Dalglish has been working alongside director of football Damien Comolli to identify summer targets with Adam the man that the pair are desperate to bring to Anfield.
Liverpool attempted to bring Adam to the club in January but Blackpool manager Ian Holloway managed to convince the Scottish international to stay until the end of the season.
However, Adam is now expected to leave for a bigger club at the end of the season and has hinted that he would be interested in a move to Liverpool.
"It's a privilege to be linked with these types of clubs but it's not just about me, it's about this club and my team-mates as well," said the 25-year-old midfielder.
"I'm not concentrating on my future. I'm just worrying about my next eight games for my club and trying to keep Blackpool in the league because that's been the focus and that's always been the focus," Adam told the Liverpool Echo.
"We'll see what happens, that's out of my hands, and I'll look forward to the next eight games and try to play as well as I can."
Adam is out of contract at the end of next season which may force the Seasiders to sell in the summer, rather than risk losing the player on a free when his contract expires.
While the creative talent of Adam would certainly add to Liverpool's current midfield, Dalglish realises that his side are also desperately short of wide players.
Young and Jarvis are the players currently catching the eye of not only Dalglish, but England manager Fabio Capello has also been impressed with the two wingers.
Young was named man of the match in the recent 2-0 win over Wales, while Jarvis came on for his debut in the friendly match against Ghana on Tuesday night.
The Wolves midfielder has the ability to play on either wing and may represent a cheaper option for Liverpool, while Young would almost certainly demand a fee of around £20million.
The 25-year-old is also being tracked by the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United and after revealing that he will not sign a new contract with Villa has become a wanted man.
Liverpool's owners, Fenways Sports Group, have promised Dalglish significant funds in the summer after the Kop idol has managed to turn the fortunes of the club around.
