Chelsea will make a January move for Theo Walcott as the battle to take advantage of the winger's contract stand-off with Arsenal gathers momentum.
Walcott is in no rush to make a decision on his future, aware that his contract has just six months left to run before he is a free agent and can have the pick of most clubs.
But Chelsea are looking to jump to the head of the queue of admirers - which includes both Manchester clubs and Liverpool - by making a firm offer when the transfer window opens next month.
A move to Stamford Bridge would seem right for Walcott as it would take away the need to relocate, although choosing a club to suit his playing style would be his priority. But that is only if he is unable to strike an agreement with Arsene Wenger - even if talks on an extension to his current deal have stalled over personal terms.
The state of flux at some of the clubs chasing Walcott - especially in regard to who will be in charge next season and whether they will be in the Champions League - means that he may yet decide to see out his contract instead of rushing a decision.
Walcott also knows that from January 1 he can sign a lucrative pre-contract deal with foreign clubs. Italy's elite, including both Milan sides as well as Juventus, are following the progress of his negotiations.
