Liverpool have been placed on alert after Rubin Kazan's Salomon Rondon revealed he would be willing to take a pay cut to move to a top European club.
The Reds were heavily linked with a move for Rondon over the summer but with Daniel Sturridge injured, Brendan Rodgers is looking to add to his attacking options in January and could rekindle his interest in Rondon if he believes a move is possible.
Reports in Russia suggest that Rondon may have already begun negotiations with Italian giants Inter Milan over a move in January and signalled a willingness to take a pay cut to facilitate a move.
Rondon currently earns approximately £33,000-a-week at Rubin before incentives and bonuses but appears ready to forgo some of that to facilitate the right move.
And that could open the door for Liverpool to bring the former Malaga star to Anfield.
Inter seem determined to bring Rondon to Milan with Walter Mazzarri of the view that the 24-year-old will be the perfect complement to his current strike force.
But the Italian club needs to sell before they can buy, leaving a small opportunity for Liverpool to make a move in the lead up to the January window and beat Inter to the punch.
The opportunity may not last long however with reports today suggesting that Inter directors were in London to negotiate a £17m deal to send Fredy Guarin to Manchester United or Tottenham.
And that's £17m that could very well soon be on the way to Rubin in exchange for Rondon unless Liverpool act quickly.
