Liverpool are lining up a £25m bid for Manchester United target Miralem Pjanic as they prepare for life without Steven Gerrard.
Pjanic is regarded as a long-term target for United, but has also been linked with Manchester City and Tottenham in the past.
But reports in Italy now suggest that Liverpool are preparing to make the Bosnian the long-term successor to Gerrard at Anfield.
Gerrard confirmed yesterday that he would join the LA Galaxy in the MLS next season.
And the Reds are willing to offer Pjanic £60,000-a-week to make the switch to the Premier League.
Pjanic is thought to have major reservations about making a move to England and would prefer to stay in Serie A with Roma.
But with the Italian outfit determined to hold onto Kevin Strootman - heavily linked with United - they may decide to allow Pjanic to leave.
It now remains to be seen whether Roma feel they are able to withstand Liverpool's interest in Pjanic as they look to keep hold of the talented 24-year-old.
