Southampton have had a bid rejected for Leeds starlet Sam Byram, who has been lined up to replace Calum Chambers after his £16m move to Arsenal.
Byram burst into Leeds' first-team in the 2012-13 campaign, and has since become one of the hottest English prospects outside of the Premier League.
The Saints are keen admirers of the right-back after losing Chambers to Arsenal this summer, but still face competition from Liverpool and Leicester City after their £4.5m bid was rejected.
The Reds are in the market for defensive reinforcements with the added fixtures of the Champions League, while the Foxes are lacking in full-back options.
