Liverpool are set to reignite their interest in AC Milan striker and Arsenal target Mario Balotelli with a £17.5m bid.
Brendan Rodgers claimed earlier this summer that there was no chance of Balotelli joining the Reds.
But reports in Italy continue to insist that the Italian international could be Anfield bound before the end of the transfer window.
Milan CEO Adriano Galliani also claimed recently that Balotelli was a "99.8 per cent" chance that the 24-year-old stayed put this summer.
However, club president Silvio Berlusconi claimed in July that he had agreed to sell Balotelli to an English club for £28m.
He said: "Other than Italy, I'm the one who lost at the World Cup."I was selling Balotelli to an English team for several millions, but, after this World Cup, who will buy him now?
"I was going to sell it to a top English club for €35million (£28m), now the deal has stalled."
Arsenal have also been linked with a move for the striker but it can not be ruled out that the club in question was Liverpool, who have made no secret of their hopes to sign another striker.
It seems that the Merseyside outfit may have reconsidered their position and concluded that Balotelli is the best option left available.
