Liverpool are lining up a surprise 7 million euro part-exchange offer for former Inter Milan winger Emre Belozoglu, according to reports in Germany.
According to the German website, Fabio Aurelio is the player the Reds want to part with, plus 7 million euros (£6 million) for the Turkey international, who has experienced the Premier League before during a short spell at Newcastle.
Liverpool have already put together a short list of transfer targets in January after the appointment of Damian Comolli as director of football strategy.
Comolli will work alongside manager Roy Hodgson to identify targets from abroad and the focus has previously been on bringing young, seemingly French, talent to Anfield.
However, the club are also aware of the need to combine that youth with experience or risk having similar naivety to Arsenal, whose manager Arsene Wenger admits concerns over his young squad's squandering of chances.
And Emre has previous experience of playing in England so would not need much time to settle into Liverpool's team and he has been playing well for Fenerbache this season.
