Liverpool are believed to be in a two-horse race with Olympique Marseille to sign Rennes defender Rod Fanni.
French media outlet RMC reports that the club's director of football strategy, Frenchman Damien Comolli, has held talks with Ligue 1 club Rennes' president Pierre Dreossi concerning a potential move for the full-back.
Marseille are thought to have retained an interest in the player despite having previously maintained that Rennes were demanding too much in exchange for the services of Fanni.
