Liverpool are lining up a shock £18 million January move for Zenit St Peterburg's right-back Alexander Anyukov, whilst also showing interest in Rennes' defensive midfielder Yann M'Vila, according to the Daily Mail.
The club's interest in the Russian Anyukov comes not too long after the Anfield club paid a similar price for current right-back Glen Johnson.
However, the England full-back has been subject to criticism during his time at Liverpool and new boss Roy Hodgson may be seeking to stamp his influence on a team that is comprised mainly of former boss Rafa Benitez's charges.
Also looking to bolster the centre of his midfield, the Reds boss is set to be keen on tough-tackling Rennes holding midfielder M'Vila.
The 20-year-old France international recently said: "I want to play in a great league, and the Premier League is sensational. I watch all the games and think it would fit my style of play."
