Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is closely monitoring Spain's World Cup winning left-back Joan Capdevila who has rejected a new contract offer from Villarreal.
The 32-year-old will be out of contract next summer, but Villarreal will only offer him a year-long deal at the moment, with the left-back looking for a two-year contract.
Capdevila has been at Villarreal since 2007 and has built a reputation as an excellent attacking full-back.
His agent Horacio Gaggioli admitted that the World Cup winner is holding out for a better deal before making any decisions, commenting, "There are offers on the table but we're waiting on Villarreal. He's happy there but he would also like a contract that reflects his work on the field. We will have further talks in the future."
However, the Daily Mirror claims that Liverpool have already been sounded out as a possible destination for Capdevila and that the Anfield club are keen particularly given the prospect of his availability on a free transfer. Apparently, Capdevila is also close to Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina.
Liverpool have been linked to other left-backs of late, including Swedish international Oscar Wendt.
