Liverpool have rejected a £5million bid for Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva from Palermo; however talks are continuing between the two clubs, LFC Globe understands.
Liverpool rejected a bid for the Brazilian last week, however the two clubs are still in discussions with the Reds demanding at least £8million for the 23-year-old.
Hodgson isn't keen on losing the Brazilian, who started in 32 of 38 Premier League games last season, but is unable to influence discussions which are already in an advanced stage.
Meanwhile, Nabil El Zhar looks set to leave Liverpool after publicly declaring he wants out.
He said: "I want to leave Liverpool. I do not play often enough.
"I'm 23 and I cannot afford to only play a few bits of games. There are several European clubs interested and I will not close any doors."
