Liverpool are being linked with a summer move for Real Madrid star Fernando Gago.
The Argentine international has been on the periphery at the Santiago Bernabeu following the arrival of Jose Mourinho, and Liverpool are thought to be one of the clubs keen to take the player away from Spain.
Reports came out of Spain last week that Florentino Perez, the club's president, is keen to offload a number of players in an effort to create transfer funds for 'the special one'. Gago is thought to be one of those on the exit list, having joined the club in 2007 for a fee in the region of £18 million.
The People reports that the Merseysiders are in the chase for the South American midfielder, although Liverpool will reportedly look to negotiate an £8 million move for the player with the La Liga outfit looking for a fee in the region of £10 million.
Kenny Dalglish has hinted at additional transfers in the summer following the arrival of two strikers in January, with the Liverpool boss keen to strengthen in additional areas at Anfield.
Christian Poulsen has failed to impress following his summer arrival at Liverpool, and 24-year-old Gago could be seen as the ideal replacement for the club.
The former Boca Juniors starlet has earned 30 caps for Argentina in his career thus far, and offers European Cup and international experience to the improving Reds.
Reports of a training ground bust-up could speed-up the player's exit from the Spanish capital, although Liverpool are sure to face competition in their efforts to land the player.
