Lucas heads awards list

Liverpool's Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva now has another prestigious award to his name - as Everton FC Ladies' star Jill Scott makes it a hat-trick off the pitch.

Merseyside's football fraternity were major winners at the MBNA Northwest Football Awards earlier this week and joining the celebrations of Merseyside's two main clubs were Enoch Showumni of Tranmere Rovers and Southport goalkeeper Tony McMillan.

Held at Lancashire County Cricket Club's Old Trafford ground, the night of recognising regional excellence in the sport also saw achievements away from the action honoured with 'Everton in the Community' and Liverpool's use of 'New Media' winning their respective categories.

Lucas is already the proud owner of the Standard Chartered Fans' Player of the Year and now adds the Footballer of the Year gong to his collection.
