Liverpool and Blackburn target Esteban Granero could snub England and remain in Spain with Malaga.
The attacking midfielder, known as the Pirate, has fallen down the pecking order at Real Madrid under former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and is set for a January move.
Blackburn had been hoping to land the 24-year-old on a loan deal as they battle to stave off relegation but Real are keen on offloading the playmaker permanently. Liverpool have also been monitoring his situation.
The 2009-10 season was Granero's best at Madrid when he was managed by Manuel Pellegrini, who is now the boss at big-spending Malaga.
Granero has played just 11 La Liga minutes this season and the former Spain Under-21 star needs to find a new club - with Pellegrini eager to manage him again.
